A Day Out At Bressingham Steam Engines and Gardens

Recently me, my three year old son and a family member went for a day out at Bressingham steam engines and gardens

This is somewhere we had never been before, and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect as we were actually visiting for a Fire Engine Rally weekend that they were hosting.

Arrival

It was fairly easy to find and boasts a big car park so we were on our way to purchase tickets fairly quickly.

We decided to pay slightly extra on the day to be able to go on the trains and ‘gallopers’ which is a beautiful old carousel similar to that in Mary Poppins!

We visited the fire engine rally and my son had a wonderful time looking at all of the different types of fire engines and be able to climb in and ‘drive them’, this was all based on one of the bottom fields.

Trains

If you are a fan of trains than a day out at Bressingham is certainly for you. There are old steam trains, locomotives and even working mini railway trains which you are able to ride on and surprisingly they last for a little while and take you all through the grounds!

I think we all enjoyed them and the ticket cost includes unlimited rides. They tend to run every 30 mins or so and each have a little station for you to wait at.

My son was in awe at the sheds that contained the trains including once which was in the recent blockbuster Tarzan!) and especially the royal carriages that the Queen had used! I wouldn’t call myself a train buff, but I have to say I was very interested!

Lunch

There is a lovely restaurant which boasts homemade fare and family favourites and was reasonably priced. There was a lot of seating so you could eat in or out. Nearby there is also a children’s play area which is perfect for small ones and there are baby changing facilities which is always a win in my book!

Old Arcade

One of the unsung heroes of the day was the old arcade which had some old rides and slot machines from yesteryear! Many of which you will no doubt recognise from your childhood! There is also crazy golf and a mini go kart track and all the children there seemed to love it.

Gardens

Bressingham Gardens are truly magnificent and my son who normally tires easily was enthralled by the flowers, well, pond and little hut which can be found throughout these stunning gardens. The work that goes into maintaining them to this standard was breathtaking. We took so many photos as we couldn’t stop saying how amazing the gardens were!

It isn’t hard to see why a day out at Bressingham is one of the popular ones for families and train enthusiast alike. It kept my very energetic three year old enthralled and we are most certainly going to make a return trip!
